ONTARIO COTTAGE RENTALS
Ah! The cottage by the lake! Pure bliss!

What? You don't have a cottage? Never fear, you can rent one and pretend that it's your own, if only for a week.

Typical summer rates run from $800 and up per week. There are tons of booking sites on the web but I like this one best because they have inspected the sites to ensure quality AND you can search by date, services and price range: http://www.cottagerental.com

Some budget choices that you may not have considered before:

ONTARIO HOSTELS AND UNIVERSITY RESIDENCES
Budget tight? Yes, I’ve been there. I once stayed in a jail cell in Ottawa while on vacation… but not for doing anything criminal! My bed for the night was the Ottawa Jail Hostel. Details here…

CAMPGROUNDS IN ONTARIO
How do you find the perfect campground – with all the hookups and services you need?

And what about FREE accommodation?

HOME EXCHANGE
This organization has been around for more than 50 years. They hook you up with people who are looking to exchange a home for a finite period of time. I've never tried this route so I can't give any personal recommendations but it does sound intriguing. If anyone has done this, please write to me and let me know what you think of the program. I'm very curious! http://www.homelink.ca/

MORE TIPS FOR FINDING YOUR IDEAL ONTARIO ACCOMMODATION

To ensure I’m booking a decent place, I like to check tripadvisor.com before I travel. I read their user-generated reviews of lodgings to get a feel for a place. Of course you have to take it all with a grain of salt, because some of the reviews are fake (and some reviewers are just grumpy!), but I think if you get an overwhelming BAD or GOOD for many reviews, then that will tell you something. I’ve never been disappointed or shocked this way.

Are you getting the best deal on your Ontario accommodation? Once you’ve decided where to stay, and checked prices online, I recommend that you call or email the lodging directly. Tell them what you’ve found, and they may offer you a better deal than the one advertised elsewhere. It doesn’t always work, but it’s worth giving it a shot!
